Summer isn’t over just yet! Whether you’re a business traveler, visiting friends and family, staying in Portland or you’re a full-time local, use this handy-dandy guide to making the most of a weekend getaway in Tualatin Valley.

Go Wine Tasting

Savor the tastes of Tualatin Valley at some of Oregon’s most esteemed wineries. Soak in the last rays of summer while you sip away the day sampling wine from our 30+ estate wineries located in either of the Tualatin Valley’s two viticultural areas, Tualatin Hills and Laurelwood District. Choose from a range of experiences, from a high-end experience at one of Oregon’s oldest estate vineyards, or a casual day in a rustic farm setting. Reservations are recommended, but not required at most wineries in Tualatin Valley. 

Visit a Farm

Thanks to a cooler-than-normal spring, berry season is still in full swing. Hoffman Farms, Smith Berry Barn and Sherwood Orchards are just some of the u-pick farms where you can spend some time picking locally grown fruit. (Please check crop availability before heading out) While out in farm country, visit an alpaca farm! Head to Alpacas of Oregon in Sherwood, Stoneberg Alpacas in Hillsboro, or Alpaca Farm & Gardens in Beaverton for exquisite alpaca products including yarn and other items.

Take the Scenic Route

Tualatin Valley has an abundance of wide open spaces, where there are plenty of opportunities to take in the picturesque sites of the region. Travel along one of these designated scenic routes and get lost in Oregon’s Tualatin Valley. Explore the painted quilt barns along the Tualatin Valley Quilt Barn Trail or travel through the rural landscapes of the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route.

Float on the Water

August typically has the area’s warmest temperatures, so this is the time to head out on the water to cool off. Oregon’s Tualatin Valley has the perfect spots for water recreation not far from the comforts of urban areas. Hagg Lake is a local favorite for fishing, boating and hiking all year round. It’s the perfect spot to escape the city and the heat of summer. Hagg Lake has two boat ramps and plenty of space for all kinds of water activities such as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, water skiing, jet skiing and motor boating. The Tualatin River National Water Trail is a slow-moving river, perfect for beginners to canoeing or kayaking. It’s easy to paddle upstream or downstream on this meandering river.
