Shopping and Beer Tour of Oregon’s Tualatin Valley

Tax-free shopping and beer go hand-in-hand in Tualatin Valley. Two dozen breweries, plus two of Oregon’s premier shopping centers keep beer and shopping lovers coming to the valley. Carve out a couple days and plan to shop and sip without breaking the bank.

DAY ONE

Start off a day of tax-free shopping at Washington Square located near three of Portland’s main roadways (I-5, HWY 217 and HWY 26). With four major department stores and 170 well-loved shops, Washington Square is a shopper’s paradise. This shopping center even boasts Oregon’s largest Nordstrom.

Next, visit Tualatin Valley’s newest brewpub, Ex Novo Brewing Company. This Portland-based brewery, known for its hop-forward, malt-forward and sour craft beers opened its second location in Historic Downtown Beaverton. Try a tasting tray of its brews, which pair delightfully with the pub’s Detroit-style pizza.

Next, hit the books at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton. This sister location to the famed Powell’s City of Books in downtown Portland is an ideal addition to a Tualatin Valley shopping itinerary. At 32,500 square feet, filled with new and used books, appearances by noteworthy authors, and a knowledgeable, book-loving staff, this bookstore is a haven for bibliophiles.

For dinner, go for hearty German fare at the new Bargarten Bavarian Social Haus. Nosh on German sausages, schnitzel and a variety of meat dishes, which pair well with the menu’s selection of German ales.

After a day of tax-free shopping and beer tasting, hunker down in one of our hotels and get a good night’s rest for your next day in Tualatin Valley.

Tax-free shopping abounds in Washington County, with everything from high-end malls and shopping centers to antique shops and specialty boutiques. Convenient access from freeways minimizes headaches and maximizes shopping time!

DAY TWO

Jump start the day with a tax-free shopping spree at Bridgeport Village  for more tax-free shopping. This is of the Pacific Northwest’s premier fashion and lifestyle shopping centers, and offers one- of-a-kind boutiques and well-known brands including crowd-pleasers such as the Apple Store and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.

Tea aficionados flock to the Stash Tea Retail Store, which features hundreds of varieties of loose-leaf and bagged teas made with leaves from around the globe. As one of the first internationally recognized tea brands, Stash Tea remains to be one of the pioneers of Oregon tea.

Time for lunch! Travel to Tualatin and enjoy a wood-fired pizza paired with a pint or tasting tray of Stickmen Brewing Company’s award-winning beers. This Oregon craft brewery has earned several accolades, including winning a gold medal at the Oregon Beer Awards in 2016. The beer hall features a variety of craft brews, including year-round, seasonal and experimental beers, as well as barrel-aged and nitro beers. The brewery serves individual-sized wood-fired pizzas made from a pizza oven imported from Italy.

Next, venture to Ancestry Brewing, the first brewery and taproom for this growing craft brewer. Ancestry Brewing pours its family-crafted ales at its Tualatin taproom. Scottish Red, English Mild, Irish Red and Russian Imperial Stout are just some of the handcrafted beers found at this brewery.
