Shopping and Wine Tour of Tualatin Valley

DAY ONE
Start off a day of tax-free shopping at Washington Square located near three of Portland’s main roadways (I-5, HWY 217 and HWY 26). With five major department stores, 170 distinctive shops, nationally recognized restaurants, such as the Cheesecake Factory, and a large food court, Washington Square is a shopper’s paradise. After lunch, it’s time for wine tasting at Hamacher Wines, located in the Historic Ponzi Estate. Taste Hamacher’s exquisite Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, then sample some of Ponzi’s signature wines. Soak in the sun on the lawn and play a game of bocce ball.
Next, visit Cooper Mountain Vineyards, which was the first certified biodynamic and organic winery in the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy tastes of Cooper Mountain’s Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
After wine tasting, venture to Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton. This sister location to the famed Powell’s City of Books in downtown Portland is an ideal addition to a Tualatin Valley shopping itinerary. With 32,500 square feet, filled with new and used books, appearances by noteworthy authors, and a knowledgeable, book-loving staff, this bookstore is a haven for bibliophiles.
For dinner, go for hearty German fare at the new Bargarten Bavarian Social Haus. Nosh on German sausages, schnitzel and a variety of meat dishes, which pair well with the menu’s selection of German ales.

Stop and have lunch at one of the dozen delectable restaurants, whether it is at a popular national chain or a one-of-a kind eatery.
Tea aficionados flock to the Stash Tea Retail Store, which features hundreds of varieties of loose-leaf and bagged teas made with leaves from around the globe. As one of the first internationally recognized tea brands, Stash Tea remains to be one of the pioneers of Oregon tea.
Drive into Tualatin Valley’s wine country and visit three wineriesin the Chehalem Mountains AVA, located outside of the city of Sherwood:
- Blakeslee Vineyard Estate focuses on sustainable farming practices, which result in an array of varietals that reflect the terroir and the care and attention spent on the vines. Sample Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and for a treat, a late harvest Riesling.
- Hawks View Cellars is one of the state’s premier destination wineries. Enjoy a tasting at the marble counter, cozy up in a leather lounge chair to enjoy the stunning view of Mt. Hood or venture outside to relax in a comfortable Adirondack chair on a warm day.
