Sample One-Day Itinerary
From berries to blooming dahlias, the Tualatin Valley boasts a cornucopia of homegrown goodness. Whether you enjoy tromping into the fields to see berries up close or sitting back to enjoy the finished products, we have the place for you. Enjoy a meal of local food or pick fruit at its peak; every experience is memorable.
Begin the day at one of the largest garden centers in Oregon, Al’s Garden Center. This 10.5-acre, state- of-the-art center is big enough to have a retractable roof the size of a football field. Explore the variety of plants and gift items for sale, as well as live demonstrations from garden experts. (1 hour)
Continue on to Mountainside Lavender, a family-run hillside farm with a view, where more than 20 varieties of lavender grow in several colors, and U-pick is generally offered in June, July and August. (1 hour)
After the lavender, it’s on to Smith Berry Barn, where you can enjoy seasonal offerings such as U-pick berries, farm fresh fruits and vegetables, specialty herbs and perennials, hanging baskets and more. The historic barn offers gourmet foods, distinctive gifts, an espresso bar and milkshakes made with fruit fresh from the farm. (30 minutes)
Cross the street for lunch at South Store Café, a historic landmark housed in a 100-year-old clapboard building. In addition to the full coffee bar, the South Store Café offers an array of pastries, sandwiches, homemade soups, and lunches — all made fresh. (1 hour)
Next, pick berries at Hoffman Farms Stores, where lush blueberries, sweet blackberries and more are ripe for the pickin’. (1 hour)
En route to the small town of Helvetia, stop at Stoneberg Alpacas, where guests can feed these gentle animals and peruse the store and purchase soft alpaca-wool yarn, hats, sweaters and more. (30 minutes)
End the day with a relaxing summertime favorite—a visit to Helvetia Lavender Farm for tea service in the pavilion, enjoying the lavender fields’ fragrance and the valley view. (1-1.5 hours)
